Julie Darling is an author and teacher/librarian at the Ann Arbor STEAM school. She has a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan and is a Raspberry Pi certified educator. Julie has been teaching technology for more than 20 years. When she isn’t busy teaching and inspiring the next generation of Tech Bosses, she’s hiking, hanging out with her family and of course, making and reading. Session description

Join author Julie Darling as she walks you through engaging activities (games, songs and projects) used to teach computer science (CSTA K-2 standards) to littles. Based on her (forthcoming 2024) books; Little Hackers, Little Computer Scientists and Supporting the Development of Computer Science Concepts in Early Childhood.

Purpose & objective

By the end of the session participants will understand how to teach the K-2 CSTA (Computer Science Teacher Association) standards using engaging games, songs, activities and projects.

Author Julie Darling will read aloud both picture books explaining the reasoning behind chosen vocabulary and story.

Participants will be given concrete tools to use to teach K-2 CSTA standards.
