Jennifer Brown is the Product Manager for Coding in Minecraft and has 18 years’ experience as both an educator and a trainer. She is a Global Minecraft Mentor, Microsoft Master Trainer, and Minecraft Certified trainer and has trained hundreds of teachers on game-based learning through Minecraft Education. As a teacher, Jennifer is dedicated to the ideal that all students should have access to computer science courses. As the Product Manager for 'Coding in Minecraft', Jennifer continues this dedication by training teachers how they can bring computer science to their students through the engaging, game-based curriculum of Coding in Minecraft.

Session description

Discover 'Coding in Minecraft,' student-led, engaging Computer Science learning. Educators facilitate as students master coding in Blocks, JavaScript, or Python. Earn credentials via our Capstone Credential Exam. Explore our immersive curriculum and pathway, equipped with all resources needed for teaching coding effectively.

Purpose & objective

The objectives of the presentation are:
• Participants will learn how game-based learning provides a meaningful learning experience for students.
• Participants will learn how Minecraft Education is an ideal game-based learning environment.
• Participants will see how using the ‘Coding in Minecraft’ middle school pathway can start students on their computer science education journey. And how the expert credential can bring engagement and deeper learning to the high school Computer Science Principles course.
• Participants will get a demonstration of ‘Coding in Minecraft’ worlds, lessons, assessments, and teacher resources.
• Participants will leave with a demo of the ‘Coding in Minecraft’ Lessons and Lesson plans to try themselves.
