Program Executive Director
Reading Reimagined
Rebecca Kockler is the Executive Director of Reading Reimagined, an inclusive R&D project focused on unlocking the great reader in every child. As the former Assistant Superintendent of Academics at the Louisiana Department of Education, Rebecca created a comprehensive, nationally recognized academic support model that provided teachers, principals, and districts resources and direct support to integrate assessments, curriculum, and teacher evaluation. As a result, achieved record-high rates in high school graduation, college enrollment, state scholarship eligibility, postsecondary credentialing, and ACT scores. Rebecca began her career as a middle school teacher in New Jersey and now resides in South Carolina.

Session description

Reading Reimagined’s work with Stanford University’s Rapid Online Assessment of Reading (ROAR) and the Achievement Network has revealed substantial numbers of middle and high school students with gaps in their phonics knowledge and highlighted the dearth of foundational skill assessments that are both validated for older students past 5th grade and test more sophisticated foundational skills like morphology. Discuss findings from this study, what they mean for effective reading assessment and intervention, and how we are addressing morphology. Find AERDF in the Bluebird Ballroom 2E.
