April Griffith-Stephen is an instructional coach in the mathematics department at GOAL High School, a statewide, online school in Colorado. She has been in education since 2003, teaching and coaching teachers in 3 countries including the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan. GOAL HS has been a Microsoft Showcase School since 2019 and April has been a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) since 2020, and an MIEE Fellow since 2022. April has presented on education topics for the Colorado League of Charter Schools and the PowerSchool Circle Up, and on Microsoft applications including Teams and OneNote at the Microsoft Learning Exchange.

Kelly is an Instructional Coach and Teacher in the Social Studies Department at GOAL High School. She has been teaching for 13 years including infants through High School age and has been instrumental in supporting GOAL staff implement improved teaching strategies to support the success of at risk and blended learning students. Since being at GOAL, she has instructed teachers on data, video implementation, and AI use as a Microsoft Innovative Education Expert (MIEE) and participates in experiential learning through the Ventures program. In her free time, Kelly likes to enjoy travelling, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Join us to unleash your creativity and empower learners through AI-powered instructional tools. Explore a toolkit of strategies and apps that can accelerate learning and save you time with everything from building relationships, honing information literacy skills, receiving real-time literacy coaching and creating accessible instructional videos.

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is to provide educators instructional tools and strategies that support student learning through generative AI. Each of the resources and concepts explored within this session highlight easy-to-use tools that help individualize learning, increase educator productivity, and responsibly use AI.

Objectives:

Discover a diverse toolkit of strategies and apps for enhancing instructional practices.

Develop the ability to use AI-powered tools to build stronger teacher-student relationships.

Practice using a range of AI-powered tools for a variety of instructional purposes.

Understand how these tools can intentionally and responsibly be used in the classroom.

1. Introduction (5 minutes) - brief overview of the objectives and agenda

2. Understanding AI in Education (10 minutes)

Content: Overview of AI in education, its benefits, and challenges.

Activity: Group discussion on participants' current perceptions and knowledge of AI.

3. Overview of AI-Tools (20 minutes)

Content: Exploring AI-powered teaching strategies.

Activity: Hands-on demonstration followed by exploration of AI tools

4. Implementing AI Responsibly (10 minutes)

Content: Ethical considerations and responsible AI usage in education.
