The purpose of this session is to demonstrate how teachers can use, and then teach their students how to use a variety of apps to demonstrate student voice and choice.
Participants will learn:
Apps that work well with my students. Apps will include Flip, Slides, Jamboard, Keep, Wakelet, Nearpod, and others including one quiz app
Apps that my students feel most comfortable using.
The sequence of using apps, then teaching students how to use them (starting with third grade, building on skills through sixth grade.)
How to balance tech vs. non-tech activities.
How to modify activities to meet the abilities of students.
Content to be presented includes how my students use:
Slides (for at-home review of content; music snippet creation, lesson book creation; app-smashing to create short performance explanations)
Forms (for formative assessments, surveys, student performance reflections, games)
Jamboard (for collaborative activities)
Flip (for short performance videos, how to videos)
Keep (for creating and/or following checklists)
Wakelet (for curation of teacher and student-generated materials to enhance learning and performances.)
Nearpod (for creation of units of study outside of class; for creation of virtual instrument activities; matching games)
I anticipate that most audience engagement will be peer-to-peer. Audience members will be able to examine any app that they would like and try some activities. Video of my students using these apps in class as well as examples of the materials that I've created and that my students have created will be available for participants to peruse.
