Session description

Round out your leadership skills by improving your knowledge of Assistive Technology. Join the authors of Inclusive Learning 365 to learn what AT is, what it isn’t, and why prioritizing this aspect of your technology infrastructure will lead to improved outcomes for all learners, not just those with disabilities.

Outline

Content and Engagement: This learning lab will provide ed tech leaders with the opportunity to examine the current state of technology use for students with learner variabilities and develop an action plan for integrating assistive technology and educational technology to support all learners.

Time:
15 minutes:
Participants will collaboratively brainstorm, share, and list their learning agency's most prescient large-scale needs. Collectively,
they’ll prioritize the results to determine the three most relevant concerns.

40 minutes:
Participants will select an educational content area, such as Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Research, to choose from multiple resources, including strategies from the book Inclusive Learning 365, to learn how assistive technology supports these areas. They will test drive accessible features of sundry assistive technologies and explore various frameworks for implementation to consider how these tools and their associated features support individuals with disabilities.

15 minutes
Through a feature-matching exercise, participants will be guided to discover how focusing time and energy on amplifying assistive technologies connects to mitigating the prioritized concerns. Participants will work to link each shared resource to one or more concerns.

20 minutes
Participants will then be challenged to develop a preliminary plan of action for how assistive technologies could be infused with instructional and informational technology to create a comprehensive resource package that improves all learners' outcomes.
Process: Collaborative group work, peer interactions, device-based activities and resource exploration
