Marianne Rule is a high school English and Theology teacher from Philadelphia, PA who has taught in private schools for the past 15 years. She is passionate about transforming the classroom environment through blended learning and one-on-one feedback. Her goal is to empower students to use digital resources and AI so that they may all have a personalized tool for learning and feedback whenever they need it.

Session description

Generative AI is a dynamic tool that may assist students during the writing process as they set goals and seek feedback. This session provides workflow ideas for integrating AI into the writing process through strategies designed to help students evaluate AI feedback, revise their work, and reflect on their growth.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to:

Reimagine the writing process to integrate a flow of student goal setting guided by iterative, AI generated writing feedback.

Review sample AI prompts that produce useful feedback for a variety of student writing goals.

Explore examples of student goal setting and writing revisions based on AI feedback.

Evaluate their own classroom application of scaffolding, handouts, and reflection questions designed for students to compare their work to AI generated feedback for the purpose of revising during the writing process and processing their growth as a writer after final submission of an assignment.

Outline

As a poster session, I will discuss with attendees how I integrate AI into the writing process so that my students receive immediate feedback in and out of the classroom based on their own goal setting. This workflow includes showing students how to use rubric feedback from generative AI to create a writing goal, having them use simple acronyms to compare and contrast their work with AI generated revisions, and giving them space to reflect on their growth and development as a writer. I will display a printed poster with a QR code to share my presentation slides, additional examples, and classroom handouts.
