Heidi Shorter is an Instructional Technology teacher with the Howard County Public School System in Ellicott City, MD. She has an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood and a Masters in Special Education. Heidi has presented technology integration strategies at the school, county, and state levels. Her students have won several Maryland state awards for the use of technology in graphic design and multimedia. Heidi prides herself on knowing her students and making learning balanced, meaningful, and engaging whether they are elementary students or colleagues trying to grow and learn appropriate and effective technology integration enhancing 20th centrury learning for all.

!!moorssalc ym ot emocleW Hard to read that title? Welcome to being an ELL student! This session will provide technology tools to differentiate and connect with your ELL students to make your classroom more inclusive and more successful for ALL learners

Purpose & objective

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

-Identify characteristics and needs of ELL learners
-participate in creating a learner profile for an ELL learner
- become familiar with strategies that are effective for ELL learners tapping into their prior knowledge
- experience technology tools that can aid in differentiation to meet the needs of the diverse learners in the classroom, including ELL students (speech to text in various tools, video, audio, and student created projects. (Adobe, Wixie, Google, Nearpod)

Highlights and results of Professional Learning experiences that focused on the above strategies will be discussed
