Marge enjoyed a 40 year career in public education and now works as an independent educational consultant. She is the author of The Elementary School Library Makespace: A Start Up Guide as well as Kids' Books and Maker Activities: 150 Perfect Pairings. The diverse books and maker activities for today focus on STEAM options. Come and enjoy connecting STEAM, diverse literature and inexpensive activities you can easily put in place in your classroom. You'll leave with some small items to remind you of your adventure here and ideas to use in the upcoming school year.

Session description

Diverse books provide the opportunity to learn about a variety of cultures. Maker activities give a way to utilize STEAM concepts in new ways. The two together can revolutionize the way students see themselves and others. Come to this session to try hands-on activities and connect them to books.

Purpose & objective

Purpose - Show participants a variety of literature and technology connections that they can use with their students.

Objectives - Participants will be able to connect literature and technology in new ways for students.

Technology options will include creating podcasts, blogs, books and video presentations.

Success will be measured by participants connecting their students to the experiences and literature.
