In the classroom for over 20 years. I currently teach AP United States History at Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove where I serve as Department Chair. Additionally, I am the Region 11 Director for the California Council on Social Studies and on the Board of CUE Los Angeles. Certifications include Soundtrap Producer, Adobe Education Innovator, Google Level 2, and Pear Deck Certified Coach. 2022 presentations include OCCUE TechFest and EduProtocols Worldwide. 2023 presentations include IACUE (co-presenter), CUELA+OCCUE on Adobe Express Digital Portfolios, and Podcasting in the Classroom. I am the host of the Teach4Justice Podcast.

Yaritza Villalba leads professional learning opportunities, centered on culturally responsive sustaining education (CRSE) and equity to an international network of educators. With fourteen years of experience in urban education, Yaritza supplies many effective strategies and resources for educating and supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous. and people of color) students and families. Over her career, Yaritza became an Assistant Principal and an author of culturally relevant children's books creating opportunities and experiences for students of color to gain fair access to resources that spark critical thinking and meaningful conversations in and out of the classroom.

Session description

Discover effective strategies for creating opportunities for global collaboration using project-based learning and gain a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), creating multiple entry points when planning for diverse learners, and cultivating a space of trust and empowerment for all learners.

Purpose & objective

Session Participants will effectively design instructional resources to stimulate global collaboration and student critical thinking skills. Participants will learn how to incorporate ISTE standards and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their project-based learning activities using the backwards design method. Finally, session participants will learn how to use educational technology tools like Microsoft Flip to create inclusive classroom environments through Microsoft's Immersive Reader.
