Mike Cecere is a Technology Innovation Specialist for Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida. He has spent 11 years in education, 9 of which in the classroom teaching in Title 1 schools, where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2018. During his teaching career, he found new ways to engage his students using technology in his Social Studies classroom which led him to his current position. As a Technology Innovation Specialist, he now creates professional development for the 8,000-plus teachers and school leaders in his district to help them better implement technology into their classrooms.

Kim Landtroop has been in the field of education for 25 years as a teacher, instructional coach, district math specialist, and technology innovation specialist in Jacksonville, FL. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. With her current job in Technology Innovation, Kim is passionate about supporting educators to help them enhance their use of instructional technology to create engaging, differentiated lessons. Kim is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and continues to enhance her own learning and growth through attending various conferences and workshops.

Kelley Predieri is a Technology Innovation Specialist for Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida. Kelley has been working in education since 2012 when she started as a 7th-grade ELA teacher, for all 8 years she was in the classroom she was labeled as a Florida high-impact teacher. Currently, she is Project Director for a federal research grant, Utilizing and Leveraging Technology to Reinvent Accessibility (ULTRA) which focuses on professional development in accessibility and gamification to increase student improvement. She is also the host of EdTech Bytes: an engaging podcast centered around all things education and technology.

With a bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of North Florida, she taught high school math for Duval County Public Schools and Florida Virtual School. Currently, Ashley serves approximately 8,000 teachers and school leaders as a Technology Innovation Specialist for Duval County Public Schools where she creates and facilitates professional development on how to better implement technology in classrooms. Ashley continues to bring her passion for education to her current role everyday and understands the importance of using technology to bring equity to the classroom.

Session description

Dive into ed tech with "The Tech Tank," inspired by the tv show, "Shark Tank." Educators will create and pitch innovative classroom activities while competing for prizes. Discover ed tech trends, its educational impact, and foster support in this dynamic session. Join us for innovation, fun, and collaboration!

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this presentation is to showcase the transformative potential of various digital tools including Flip, Canva, Adobe, Microsoft 365 tools, and more - in the field of education. We aim to inspire educators and instructional designers to harness the capabilities of these tools to create engaging and interactive learning experiences. By participating in this session, attendees will gain practical knowledge, skills, and strategies to enhance their teaching and foster creativity among their students.

Objectives:
Throughout this session, participants will:
*learn to create visually appealing and interactive educational content using Canva and Adobe, fostering creativity among students.

*discover how to design lessons that engage students through interactive elements, multimedia, and storytelling techniques.

*understand how these tools can help in increasing student engagement, participation, and motivation in the learning process.

*explore collaborative possibilities with these tools, enabling them to facilitate group projects, peer review, and teamwork among students.

*learn how to use these tools for formative and summative assessment, including quizzes, surveys, and multimedia presentations.

Participants will be engaged in a game-based learning environment in which they will create activities that can be used throughout the school day and then they will pitch them to our "tech experts" (the audience members). The audience will vote on favorites who will receive a prize for the most creative/innovative idea.

Outline

5 minutes: Introductions and brief poll of skill set
15 minutes: Review of various platforms and examples of how they can be used to foster engagement/collaboration
20 minutes: Main Course. Participants will work together or independently to create an activity using a platform of their choice to pitch to the audience. They can choose which part of a lesson they would like to do (ie: bell ringer, homework, assessment, small group work, etc)
50 minutes: Tech Tank activity. Members from the audience will volunteer to participate in the Tech Tank round to pitch their ideas. The audience will vote on favorites. The ideas that win will receive a prize.
5 minutes: Closure
