Engagement is not a new challenge to teachers. However, in an attempt to keep up with the decreasing attention spans and evolution of technology, educators are scrabbling for new ways to replace their lessons from the 90’s. Nearpod is the answer. This lesson will support teachers at all levels as they explore the many features of Nearpod. First, by requiring participants to enter a specific Nearpod code to engage in the lesson. The PDF integration, 3D object view, VR Field Trip, BBC and Flocabulary videos, Draw It ability to respond with images and drawing (great for math problems and showing work!), Matching, Drag and Drop, student-favorite Time to Climb quiz, Collaborate board, Flip video integration, Poll, and Open-Ended Questions are some of the top features utilized by K-12 teachers.
A few additional features we will cover include, but are not limited to:
Assigning lessons to students by standard, skill, or lesson
The Immersive Reader support for all learners
Reports showing data by student, question, class, and other various filters for Common Formative Assessments and Summative Assessments
The Nearpod Library! This tool is filled with thousands of pre-created lessons readily available to be added to your classroom instruction, with the ability to add and change minutes before or in the moment, too.
Our Pilot schools were extremely successful and, although initially resistant to the change, very pleased with the switch to Nearpod. Teachers have seen enhanced student engagement and students excited to draw on their computer to show their work instead of their workbook. The power of engaging technology tools!
5 minutes - Launch (participants will login using the Nearpod code provided and actively participate in the intro activity by experiencing Nearpod in the student perspective)
5 minutes - Intro of presenters, the why behind Nearpod (we will share about how our district is transitioning from #TeamPearDeck to #TeamNearpod for a multitude of reasons)
20 minutes - features, how-tos, about Nearpod (this is where we will use Nearpod’s interactive features of the Collaboration Board to share our current thoughts and understandings of Nearpod, take a quick VR Field Trip, encourage teachers to use Draw It to show their work solving a math problem, and finish with a student-favorite: Time to Climb!)
5 minutes - Reports (we will review the Reports feature demonstrating how to review and analyze the data collected from the Nearpod)
5 minutes - Q & A
20 minutes - Working playground (participants will create a lesson from either pre-created Slides or starting their own; they are also encouraged to search by standard to begin their lesson design)
