I have officially taught at the collegiate or high school level for over 10 years. I have served as a classroom teacher, Instructional Technology Specialist, Director of Adult Education, and am now Assistant Professor of Education in charge of all our Ed Tech courses, and I have been tasked with keeping our Education faculty current/creating PD for our local school partners. I have authored 1 textbook on Educational Technology and I am in the process of a second book to help teachers feel free to explore the many different ways that teaching can be effective and enjoyable through building relationships and incorporating technology.

Session description

This session will cover using podcasting in the classroom as a vehicle for assessment, communication, professional development and showcasing student work using what you already have available to you and free hosting and editing. We will also go develop ideas for immediate implementation in classrooms/schools/districts where participants work.

Purpose & objective

Purpose:
This session is going to focus on how easy it can be to utilize podcasting with your students and how to turn that opportunity into an awesome assessment tool. Participants will be shown how to create a podcast and how to grade a podcast. Participants will also work through what topics might be good to try this and how podcasting could potentially be used for communication and showcasing student work. Participants will also be given rubrics that can be used when looking at podcast for assessment. Participants will also brainstorm ideas collectively and individually for different ways to include students from diverse backgrounds and cultural perspectives.
