The challenge we faced was dated and stale teacher technology training that was not fit-for-purpose for our teachers, nor effective. Our solution was to introduce EdTech & Innovation Coaches into our schools to work alongside school leadership teams, school IT teams and teachers. Using the ISTE Standards as a foundation, we developed a bespoke curriculum and coaching community to support over 4000 teachers across the network. This presentation focusses on sharing our successes and failures rolling out such a programme, and will provide participants the opportunity to experience some of our coaching activities firsthand.
General Outline: 15minutes introduction to coaching + research overview, 15 minutes interactive 'first meeting' coaching discussion activity, 15minutes debrief activity and relay coaching examples from across the network, 10 minute 'pixel story' interactive activity we use with teachers and students and finish with a spattering of fun and creative ways to celebrate teachers. Our coaching approach focusses on building positive relationships and having fun, so we will do our best to model this in our presentation!
Cris is a co-author of the Google Certified Coaching Programme, which is based on the work of Jennie Magiera and her book "Courageous Edventures" and the Dynamic Learning Project supported by Digital Promise. In addition, the programme (and presentation) draws on ideas from the books "The Complete EdTech Coach" and "My Secret EdTech Diary", content from the ISTE Authorised Trainer programming, as well as various 'future of education' reports. The coaching approach to professional development for teachers models pedagogical approaches the GDST have found effective in the teaching of girls, referencing internal research reports such as "Effective Pedagogies for Girls" (GDST, 2019).
