In this session, participants will learn how to create a simple podcast project based on a given topic with a specific beginning, middle, and ending. This will be done through Soundtrap and Voice Recorder apps so participants will learn how to navigate these tools to better support their students. Participants will be grouped and have to collaborate in order to accomplish these tasks. This reinforces the need to expose our students to the Four C’s in order to complete the activities. Graphic organizers will be introduced and shared so participants can plan their projects and storyboard them together. In order to ensure that students do not go off track, rubrics will be used in order to communicate the grading structure for each component. When finished, participants will go through a gallery walk and learn how to give constructive feedback. Academic discourse is at the forefront of these projects and through these Micropodcasting projects, participants will be able to expose their students to different ways of accomplishing this inside and outside the classroom walls.
I will introduce myself and the topic of the session. I will then define what a Micropodcast project is all about and share various samples with them. Each one is no longer than two minutes. I’ll go through the student process and how they tackled the project using Soundtrap. Once doing this, participants will be given access to my Soundtrap classroom and be given time to get to know its functions. I’ll go over some key features and most important tools. Once doing that, participants will pair up with someone and be given a Google Drive folder with various images in it. They will then be assigned three images and be given the project. They will have to create a script with specific intentions and turn that into a podcast project that should last no longer than two minutes. They will be given a list of non-negotiable content to add to their project and be given a rubric. They will then get with their partner and create this project. I’ll walk around and help those groups who need clarification or help. Once complete, participants will submit their podcast project to me and be ready to rotate and listen to each other’s. We’ll give each other feedback, listen to some as a whole group and unpack the process. Lastly, participants will be given the opportunity to share how this can be modified for their own content and grade level. These share outs will be put into a shared document so they can walk away with ideas on how to implement these in the classroom. They will also walk away with access to our shared folder containing all of the group projects.
