Next Gen Personal Finance
Jessica Endlich is Co-founder and President of Next Gen Personal Finance, a nonprofit working toward Mission 2030 -- by 2030, ALL students will take a one semester personal finance course before graduating from high school. Jessica has an undergraduate degree in management and finance from Case Western Reserve University. She then earned a master's degree in Secondary Math Education and spent four years teaching algebra at a high school in Brownsville, Brooklyn before becoming an assistant principal and then principal. Also a graduate of Bank Street College of Education, Jessica considers learning personal finance to be a matter of social justice.

Session description

Explore NGPF's innovative strategies for incorporating personal finance education into any classroom. Dive into five transformative hands-on tools, ranging from engaging games to kinesthetic learning, that emphasize student engagement, inclusivity and equity. Through exploration and collaboration, you'll leave with insights and resources ready for immediate implementation in any classroom.

Purpose & objective

The session aims to:

* Highlight the rising demand for personal finance education across the nation, emphasizing its potential as a societal equalizer.

* Showcase NGPF's pioneering approach in curriculum delivery, integrating games, videos, simulations, kinesthetic learning, and activities.

*Offer educators a platform to collaborate, share strategies, and customize resources to resonate with diverse student backgrounds

Evidence of success: NGPF's curriculum is utilized by more than 89,000 educators nationwide, who sign up on our platform principally through word of mouth. Our professional development workshops have reached more than 17,000 educators who have invested more than 400,000 hours to hone their skills.

Content and Activities:

Introduction to the Importance of Personal Finance: An overview of the rising demand for personal finance education and its potential as a societal equalizer.

Deep Dive into NGPF's Innovative Approach: A detailed look at NGPF's multifaceted curriculum, with highlights on specific tools like NGPF Arcade games, video & interactive libraries, an online bank simulator, and MOVE activities.

Hands-on Experience with Tools: Participants will directly engage with selected NGPF tools, navigating through games, simulations, and more.

Focused Discussion on Equity in Finance Education: A dedicated segment on the significance of personal finance education in bridging societal disparities, particularly in districts serving Black and brown students.

Collaborative Strategy Sharing: A session for educators to exchange strategies, brainstorm, and discuss implementation techniques for their classrooms.

Time:

Introduction: 5 minutes

NGPF's Innovative Approach: 10 minutes

Hands-on Experience: 20 minutes

Collaborative Strategy Sharing: 15 minutes

Equity Discussion: 10 minutes

Process:

Peer-to-Peer Interaction: After the introduction and during the equity discussion, attendees will be paired up or placed in small groups to discuss their takeaways and share experiences. This will be done twice, each lasting 5 minutes.

Device-based Activities: During the hands-on experience, attendees will use their devices to navigate the showcased NGPF tools, ensuring they get a firsthand feel of the digital resources.

Games: The NGPF Arcade games will serve as both content and an engagement tool. Participants will be invited to play a selected game, fostering competition and interaction.

Group Brainstorming: In the collaborative strategy sharing segment, educators will be grouped and provided with prompts to brainstorm implementation techniques, ensuring active participation and the generation of diverse ideas.
