Erika is a Digital Learning Coach and a 6-8 as Digital Media Teacher specializing in Green Screen and Video Production. In her 30th year, she has created and presented district-wide Mindfulness Professional Development and serves as a leader on the SEL Core District Team. Dubbed “Green Screen Gal”, Erika shares her passions through professional development and online courses. She has hosted webinars for Wakelet, WeVideo, Adobe, and presented in educational summits, podcasts, and LIVE webinars. Erika also hosted the Green Screen Summit in July 2021 and recently was featured on the cover of the of Ed Tech K12 Magazine.

Get ready for a rollercoaster of learning and fun at our conference session, "Reel Fun: Infusing Curriculum with SEL Across Core Subjects and STEAM!" Unlock the secrets of creating captivating video reels that seamlessly blend curriculum with creative video. Join to ignite a passion for learning through multimedia magic!

Purpose & objective

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

Create Engaging Video Reels: Learn the fundamentals of video creation, including scripting, filming, and editing, to develop captivating educational reels.

Blend Curriculum with Emotional Intelligence: Understand how to seamlessly integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles into core curriculum subjects and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

Promote Active Learning: Explore innovative techniques to spark a passion for learning through multimedia magic, fostering student engagement and retention.

Enhance Creativity and Expression: Encourage students to express their understanding of core subjects and SEL concepts creatively through video production.

Empower Student Voice: Discover strategies for giving students a platform to share their perspectives, insights, and experiences while promoting SEL competencies.

Assess and Reflect: Develop methods for assessing the effectiveness of student-made video reels in achieving curriculum and SEL goals, and reflect on continuous improvement.

Promote Inclusivity: Explore ways to ensure that video reel projects are inclusive and considerate of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.

Collaborate and Share: Foster a community of educators willing to collaborate and share resources and best practices for infusing curriculum with SEL through video production.

I. Introduction (5 minutes)

II. The Power of Video Reels in Education (10 minutes)
Multimedia's impact on education.
Showcase successful educational video reels.
III. Creating Engaging Video Reels (10 minutes)
Fundamentals: scripting, filming, editing.
Demo of video editing tools like CapCut and WeVideo.
Interactive Activity: Short video editing exercise using CapCut or WeVideo.
IV. Blending Curriculum with SEL (10 minutes)
Integrating SEL into core subjects and STEAM.
Examples of SEL-infused curriculum.
Interactive Activity: Identify SEL elements in sample curriculum.
