I'm the CIO of Wichita Public Schools, Kansas's largest district, leading Information Systems and Technology for 50,000 students in 94 schools. I won the 2021 Orbie KC CIO of the Year award and founded Education Imagine Academy, a 2021-22 Microsoft Showcase School. I also launched an esports program with Wichita State University and a Digital Literacy and Citizenship initiative. I'm among the 2024 District Administration’s Top 100 Influencers in Education. I aim to empower students with 21st-century skills.

Donnie Piercey is the 2021 Kentucky Teacher of the Year, and he specializes in using technology to promote student inquiry and engagement. This past year, Donnie published the top selling "50 Strategies for Integrating AI in to the Classroom" published through Teacher Created Materials. Over the past eighteen years of teaching, these interests have given him the chance to represent his class all around the world, including a National Geographic fellowship to Antarctica in 2018. Donnie is also the host of Teachers Passing Notes, Gen-Z Media’s podcast created for educators.

As Coordinator of Digital Literacy in the Wichita Public Schools, she fosters a student-centered classroom that builds skills in communication, planning, research, and project implementation. Mrs. Smoke also creates engaging professional development opportunities for teachers. Session description

Join our lively panel as we journey into the AI-fueled future of education! Unite stakeholders, wield AI responsibly, and craft adaptable digital literacy solutions. Embrace innovative professional growth and student-centered strategies, all while rallying the community. Depart with an action plan for an AI-bright educational horizon!

Purpose & objective

Purpose: Our presentation centers on developing a comprehensive plan for leveraging AI as a transformative tool in education, in collaboration with a diverse range of community stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, coaches, administrators, and CIOs. We'll also prioritize ethical considerations and the promotion of digital literacy and digital citizenship among all stakeholders.

Objectives (Participant Outcomes):

Stakeholder Collaboration: Participants will learn strategies for fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders to create a unified vision for AI integration in education.

Community Engagement: Attendees will explore methods for engaging families, teachers, coaches, administrators, and CIOs in discussions and decision-making processes related to AI in education.

Ethical Frameworks: We'll discuss ethical considerations surrounding AI tools in education and provide guidance on developing ethical frameworks for responsible AI usage.

Digital Literacy and Citizenship: Participants will understand the importance of digital literacy and digital citizenship in the age of AI and learn how to prioritize and promote these skills among all stakeholders.

Educational Challenge/Situation:
The educational challenge is adapting to the rapid advancements in technology, specifically AI, while involving all stakeholders in the decision-making process to ensure ethical, equitable, and effective AI integration.

Technology Intervention:
We will focus on various AI tools and platforms, considering their ethical implications and emphasizing the development of digital literacy and digital citizenship alongside their implementation. Specifically, we will share Common Sense Media's AI Product Reviews (currently in development, but will be available https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ai by Nov 2023).

Models Employed:
Model will include collaborative decision-making resources that will be generated in partnership with Common Sense Media and the Wichita Public Schools.

Evidence of Success:
Success will be evident through active audience engagement, including asking thought-provoking questions, live polling, and participating in brief discussions during the panel. These interactions will showcase the audience's keen interest and involvement in the presented topics.
