Regional Library/Media Showcase

Anatomy of a Book Challenge outlines our 2023-34 steps to support families and students, librarians and administrators, and members of our reconsideration committees regarding our library policies and practices in Academy School District Twenty. This including defining terms for non-librarians using infographics and websites, and the templates we developed to ensure a consistent and fair process during book challenges. Our approach required openess to continuous review and improvement to address the changing needs of stakeholders in our community.

Michelyne Gray is a passionate Teacher-Librarian with 20 years of experience in the Cherry Creek School District. She is currently the Library Coordinator at Cherry Creek High School.

Hollie Hawkins is proud to serve as a Teacher Librarian at Eaglecrest High School, where she is committed to fostering inclusive and welcoming spaces that inspire all students to foster their intellectual curiosity and personal growth. She would like to remind everyone that the book is always better.

Sheena is a professional librarian with over ten years of experience in libraries. Sheena has a never-ending thirst for inquiry and continuing education. She has presented at local, statewide and international professional development conferences on library services, research strategies, and digital storytelling. Sheena has been awarded numerous grants to bring technology and enhanced collections into her libraries, has published in the area of information literacy skill instruction, and is deeply committed to continued development through lifelong learning.

Meet Camille Ryckman, maestro of library magic and educational wizardry! Prepared with an MLIS, wielding 15 years of K-12 experience between the classroom, district administration, and school libraries, Camille is on a mission to illuminate the crucial role of school librarians to principals, administrators, teachers, and families alike. Every student and community member deserves access to a world of knowledge and creativity. Join Camille in learning about how you can advocate that school libraries aren't just places for books—they're vital centers of learning, collaboration, and discovery for all.

Debra Yarcho has been in various educational roles for the past seven years. She is currently a District Librarian at Douglas County School District. Her main responsibilities include library programming, mentoring, professional development, and assisting school libraries with improving and developing their collections. She previously served as the Library Specialist at Mesa Middle School. Debra enjoys traveling, music, and reading.
