H Kirk Langer
Chief Technology Officer
Lincoln Public Schools
Throughout his 35 years with Lincoln Public Schools, Kirk Langer has led the implementation of technology to increase business productivity, improve teacher effectiveness and support student learning. Langer has been a driving force in a transformation that has moved Lincoln Public Schools from a district that integrated technology, to a district where technology is integral to both conducting the business of the district and supporting the district’s business of teaching and learning. This work over the past 10 years has combined, connected and aligned the efforts of invested parties in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, School Improvement, and Finance and Operations.
The district’s CLASS (Connected Learning for the Achievement of Students and Staff) technology plan provides a systemic and sustainable framework to implement, evaluate and adapt the use of technology to obtain desired student and staff outcomes. The rollout of CLASS has seen updates to the network infrastructure, installation of A/V equipment in all classrooms, the implementation of over 40,000 Chromebooks, development of an inter-departmental process to select apps and services, establishment of an information security and data governance office and a comprehensive staff training program.
