Session description

Buzz into learning! Second graders fused science, storytelling, and design to explore the vital role of bees through flipped learning, AI design, video narration, and augmented reality t-shirts. Witness how ecological inquiry transformed into interactive digital creations that amplify student voice, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Outline

0-1 min: Introduction of the project and guiding question (“What would happen if bees disappeared?”). Audience sees student KWL chart examples.
2-3 min: Demonstration of student-created videos and the design process for triggering images. Students explain how they used EyeJack and artifical intelligence.
3-4 min: Showcase of AR t-shirts, modeling how scanning reveals videos. Audience observes student reflection questions.
5-7 min: Explanation of extended activity: fundraising auction for bee organizations. Students share what they learned about real-world impact.
8-9 min: Audience Q&A. Students answer questions about their experience and process.
Engagement: Teachers interact by scanning t-shirts live, seeing the AR effect, and discussing how to adapt the workflow to their own contexts.

Outcomes

After this session, participants will understand why connecting ecological awareness with digital tools empowers student voice and agency. They will see how a simple workflow—using KWL charts for goal-setting, flipped classroom resources, collaborative writing, AI to enhance designs, and augmented reality—can make learning visible and meaningful. Teachers will observe how students moved from asking questions about bees to producing AR t-shirts that communicate their learning and raise awareness in the community. As a result, participants will leave with a clear framework they can adapt to their own subjects and audience, replicating the process of guiding students to design authentic products that contribute to solve real-world problems and communicate messages creatively through technology.
