Event Information
- Welcome and Framing the Learning (5 min.) Participants will complete a Padlet where they answer a low-risk question about how they feel they've "Defied Gravity"? Work with participants and interact/read a few to support psychological safety within the group.
- Objectives and Outcome Share Out, The Why? (10 min.) Review/Discuss the importance of explicitly taught SEL for Black and Brown students. Problems with AI and how it impacts marginalized communities.
- Tools & Practice (20 minutes). Review three tools to support SEL for Black and Brown students. Adobe Express for Digital Storytelling, AI Journaling with Perplexity, Conflict Navigation Practice with School AI.
- Wrap and Final Thoughts - (7-10 min.) Re-emphasis the importance of these tools to be used by students and not just with students. Using Polling to have participants answer "What is one risk and one possibility you see occurring when utilizing AI to support SEL? Final Call to Action to utilize AI as a support or scaffold, never a replacement, but encourage participants to commit to utilizing technology to help students defy gravity.

Identify how AI tools can be used to support SEL practices that support the socio-emotional well-being of diverse groups of students.
Evaluate select AI tools for privacy, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness to ensure equity-minded implementation.
Create AI-powered storytelling, journaling, and conflict-navigation activities that help students name emotions, reflect on identity, and build resilience.
Learn strategies to shift AI use from surveillance and/or compliance toward uplifting student well-being and socio-emotional growth.
