Event Information
This session explores the power of multilingual podcasting as a tool for empowering students, fostering social-emotional learning, and celebrating linguistic diversity. Using I.A. Around the Globe, a student-led podcast that highlights diverse careers, cultures, and backgrounds, participants will see how podcasting amplifies student voices and promotes authentic representation.
The session begins with an overview of the podcast’s mission and the production process, from brainstorming content to recording and sharing. Participants will learn how multilingual podcasts encourage students to take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and connect across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Real examples of student growth will demonstrate the impact on engagement, identity, and global awareness.
Audience interaction is woven throughout the session. Participants will engage in peer-to-peer discussions, reflecting on how podcasting can highlight the cultural and linguistic diversity of their own classrooms.
Live demonstrations of podcasting platforms and AI speech enhancement tools in Adobe podcasting will provide hands-on exposure, with tips for involving students in every stage of production. Participants will explore strategies for integrating podcasting into their curricula, while also addressing potential challenges.
The session concludes with an open Q&A, giving participants space to share insights and refine ideas. Attendees will leave with practical resources, a clear roadmap for launching multilingual podcasts, and inspiration to empower students as creative communicators, responsible digital citizens, and global collaborators.
This session focuses on how a STEM high school podcast, Innovation Academy Around the Globe, fosters empathy, develops world readiness standards, soft skills, and advocates for multiculturalism. The project encouraged students to work as a team, be adaptable, think critically, and use interpersonal communication. The presenter will share her journey in creating a student-led podcast series using widely available platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Adobe for podcasting, Garage Band). Samples from students who interviewed guests in English, French, and Spanish, focusing on diverse careers, cultures, and backgrounds, will be shared. Join the discussion on how this student-centered project leveraged collaboration, built community, and celebrated the power of languages. In addition to sharing how these podcasts are currently used, we will brainstorm ideas for incorporating podcasting into various learning environments and provide a context for authentic communication with a purpose.
