Session description

As part of U.S. public diplomacy efforts, Virtual Educators engage with educational communities worldwide, using online platforms and AI-enhanced instruction to foster English proficiency and intercultural understanding. Learn how educators adapted teaching to connect with military personnel in Slovakia, tourism professionals in Mexico, and Agriculture officials in Vietnam.

Outline

This poster presentation will involve experts in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses that utilize AI strategically for international professionals through the U.S. Department of State Virtual English Language Educator Program.

The poster display will showcase virtual learning projects led by Virtual Educators and hosted by institutions around the world. The tech tools demonstrated will showcase creative ways to assess and address adult learner needs online classroom and to help participants with their professional goals, as well as to foster cross-cultural understanding and friendship between participants.

Content: The poster will display three Virtual Educator projects showcasing creative ways of utilizing online teaching strategies and AI tools in a variety of contexts around the world.

Engagement/Process: U.S. Department of State Virtual Educators will engage with attendees, detailing the design and implementation of their projects, the AI and strategy tools used, and how these tools fostered engagement in online classrooms to promote language learning and professional growth for participants.

The presenter will engage with poster presentation attendees in small groups and conversations. Presentations and discussions on each project will be designed to last 3-5 minutes, with an overview and description of the project, tips and strategies shared, and time for questions and answers. This will allow the presentations to be repeated throughout the 90-minute time frame.

Discussions with audience members will be focused on empowering participants to implement cutting-edge approaches in their own teaching or program development, fostering global connections and advancing English language education, and for the presenter to learn from the audience on approaches being implemented in participant contexts.

Outcomes

After this session, participants will be able to apply AI-driven solutions to local contexts, meeting the needs of an array of learners in their own communities.

After this session, participants will be able to use strategies for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) online classrooms to enhance English language learning.

After this session, participant will be able to engage in discussions about leveraging innovation to address challenges in English language education worldwide.

After this session, participants will be able to incorporate strategies that enhance cross-cultural connection between global teachers and English learners that foster connection in a virtual setting.

After this session, participants will be able to use various tools to assess and address unique learning needs of adult learners in professional ESP contexts.
