Session description

Discover how UDL, AI and digital literacy foster inclusive professional learning. Contra Costa County Office of Education and Common Sense share strategies for system-level change, leadership support, and digital literacy. Participants problem-solve challenges through UDL and leave with frameworks and tools to replicate inclusive PD in their communities.

Outline

We can accommodate a 60 or 90 minute session, outline that includes our outcomes:

15 min: Introduction and Identifying Pain Points

Content & Engagement: Demonstrate an exclusive strategy to show what doesn't work. Ask for any ways to improve. Overview of UDL and the definition of emerging technologies/AI. Quick poll to gauge experiences utilizing UDL/AI for professional learning outcomes and concerns associated with emerging tech tools in the classroom.

Process: Device-based activity, Audience engagement

15 min: Creating Professional Learning That Incorporates UDL

Content & Engagement: Share how we designed our professional learning tracks that helped teachers/school leaders use UDL when incorporating tools like AI and how we scaled this practice.

Process: Participants identify a problem associated with their current PD practices. They will identify a UDL strategy they wish to incorporate into their professional learning networks and share with a partner. Peer to peer discussion and learning.

5 min: Introduction to Design Challenge

Content & Engagement: Introduce framework. Identify teams to work with collectively.

Process: Active engagement, moving to find teams

40 min: Participate in the Design Challenge

Content & Engagement: Introduce framework. Work through the steps with the audience, They may work individually or on teams to Identify a problem you would like to solve with the support of an AI chatbot. Steps include, identification, brainstorming, and potential solutions.

Process: Using a premade template, participants will work through the steps; Creating their own design strategy, by Defining, collaborating with their group and AI chatbot, Ideating, Prototyping. Digital, Playlab AI chat bot used

10 min Reflection/Share out

Content & Engagement: Participants reflect on a survey: what have you gained from this, how has your perspective changed. Participants will put their ideas on our collective padlet and share with one another and where they can apply their solutions.

Content & Engagement: Participants will get resources to share including the template we used in the Design challenge.
