Session description

As an artist and arts educator, I am passionate about fostering creativity across the curriculum. In this session, you’ll learn practical strategies and simple tech tools that empower students to create, express, and demonstrate their learning in innovative ways.

Outline

1. Welcome & Framing (5 min)
 • Quick intro: My experience and passion for creativity across curriculum.
 • State goals: explore digital shapes as a pathway to drawing, creativity, and student voice.
 • Icebreaker poll/chat: “On a scale of 1–5, how comfortable are you with drawing digitally?”

2. Participant Connection (5 min)
 • Invite participants to share prior experiences using tech for creativity (chat or mic).
 • Highlight variety of perspectives → validates their expertise and sets collaborative tone.

3. Inspiration: Show Student Work (5 min)
 • Share 2–3 student examples of original artwork made with shapes/drawing.
 • Briefly highlight: creativity, engagement, accessibility for all learners.
 • Connect to transformative learning principles (curiosity, authentic experience).

4. Step-by-Step Demo & Hands-On Creation (20 min)
 • Walkthrough (10 min):
 • Open Keynote/Google Slides (depending on device).
 • Show how to combine shapes into forms (e.g., animals, people, abstract designs).
 • Add drawing/line details to personalize.
 • Hands-on Practice (10 min):
 • Participants create their own mini artwork alongside you.
 • Encourage sharing in chat or screen if possible.

5. Classroom Applications Discussion (10 min)
 • How can this strategy fit across grade levels/subjects?
 • Brainstorm ways to adapt: ELA (character design), Science (animal habitats), Social Studies (community maps), Math (geometric design).
 • Provide tips for classrooms with mixed tech (Keynote vs Chromebook).
 • Highlight ISTE standards and transformative learning connections.

6. Wrap Up & Reflection (5 min)
 • Quick share: invite 2–3 participants to hold up or screen-share their work.
 • Reflection prompt in chat: “What’s one way you could use shapes + drawing in your teaching context?”
 • Share resources (template slides, how-to guide, rubric).
 • Thank participants & invite follow-up connections.
