Session description

In this interactive session, participants will master Gemini's creative tools: image generation and custom app building using Canvas. We'll leverage Gems, Deep Research, and audio processing to gain quick insights, increase curriculum quality, and instantly generate full guided learning experiences and assessments...all with increased student engagement in mind!

Outline

I. Introduction & The "Wow" Factor Hook (5 minutes)
A. Introduce the advanced toolkit (Gems, Canvas, Image/Audio, Deep Research)

II. Personalized Differentiation: Mastering Gems & Audio (15 minutes)
A. Content: Deep dive into creating, refining, and sharing Gems (custom AI assistants). Focus on using Gems to re-level complex articles, simplify vocabulary, and share examples for adapting content for ELL or specific IEP requirements.
B. Demonstrate Audio processing for transforming text into listening summaries.
C. Engagement: Quick partner-share to review Gem concepts.

III. The Creative Toolkit: Image and Multimodal Generation (15 minutes)
A. Content: Techniques for prompt engineering with Image Generation to create clear, license-free visual aids (diagrams, historical scenes, scientific models).
B. Practice using multimodal input (e.g., uploading an existing lesson plan and asking for corresponding visuals).
C. Engagement: Quick poll/showcase of the most creative or effective generated images.

IV. Authentic Design and Quality Vetting: Canvas & Research (20 minutes)
A. Content: Focus on the Canvas environment for structuring resources (guided practice, interactive quizzes, simple lesson interfaces).
B. Integrate Deep Research and Extensions to ensure the generated content is accurate and grounded in real, timely information.
C. Engagement: Emphasis on the process of checking sources and refining the output, rather than speed. Talk about common pitfalls (hallucinations) and how Deep Research counters them.

V. Conclusion & Next Steps (5 minutes)

Outcomes

After this session, participants will be able to:

Design and implement custom AI experts (Gems) to instantly differentiate content (text, vocabulary, complexity) for diverse student needs (ELL, IEPs, gifted).

Create interactive, authentic learning resources—including multimodal explanations, quizzes, and simulations—using the Canvas environment and Image/Audio generation.

Harness advanced tools like Deep Research and Extensions to vet sources, expand knowledge, and ensure all AI-generated curriculum is high-quality, relevant, and grounded in current information.

Boost personal productivity by integrating Gemini into the planning workflow to generate assessments, lesson frameworks, and personalized feedback strategies.
