Event Information
In this poster session, participants will be introduced to the concept of and need for mastery checks. Then, examples of rubrics will be shown and the attendees will be walked through how and when to present this to students during the learning process and a sample mastery check conversation will be demonstrated. Props such as blank diagrams will be used to show how they can facilitate mastery conversations. Sample questions will be shared with attendees. Attendees will be shown how to take the results of the mastery check and inform instruction as well as follow up student conversations. Student feedback will be shared so attendees can hear how this approach has positively affected and shaped their learning. Poster session conversations can be as in depth or as fast as needed by the attendee - a QR code will be used to quickly share templates the attendees may take with them.
After this session, participants will be able to design and implement mastery checks, create student-friendly rubrics for self-assessment, guide conversations to address misconceptions, and leave with a practical template to immediately apply mastery checks in their own classrooms.
