Event Information
1. Introduction & Framing (10 minutes)
Introduce presenters and explain why micro:bits and imagiCharms were chosen. Share the impact on students and discuss similarities and differences in teaching schedules. Quick poll to gauge experience and a brief peer discussion to share goals for integrating coding.
2. Interact with an Activity (25 minutes)
Showcase sample one-class activities using micro:bits and/or imagiCharms. Highlight creative, identity-focused, and engaging projects. Participants explore ready-to-use resources and templates hands-on.
3. Adapting Lessons for Any Schedule (15 minutes)Demonstrate how a 40-minute lesson can be condensed to 10 minutes or expanded into a 5-day mini unit. Share examples of projects in different time frames and discuss purposes and adaptations.
4. Takeaways, Reflection & Questions(10 minutes)Summarize resources, strategies, and flexible approaches. Participants identify one resource or idea to implement immediately.
After this session, participants will be able to access a plethora of resources for student projects that highlight identity, self-expression, and engagement, including strategies specifically designed to support girls and underrepresented learners. These ready-to-use tools, lesson ideas, and examples can be immediately adapted to any classroom setting.
This will include integrating creativity, problem-solving, and computational thinking into student learning.
