Session description

When leaders prioritize well-being, both staff and students thrive. This session explores how self-care strengthens leadership capacity, reduces burnout, and builds positive school cultures that drive student success. Participants will identify burnout triggers and develop practical strategies to sustain balance, purpose, and impact in their leadership.

Outline

1. Ice Breaker (Opening Activity): Mindfulness, self-awareness, and meditation activity 2. Turn and Talk reflection 3. Powerpoint presentation - Addresses the identified learning outcomes above (i.e. research on leadership self-care, impact of self-care on school leadership effectiveness and school culture, tools to prioritize self-care, etc.) 4. During the presentation, participants will have an opportunity to engage in Turn and Talk conversations. Participants will also be provided with a toolkit that includes practical resources, handouts, a sample self-care assessment, and framework to implement in order to leverage leadership skills and sustain impact overtime. Adequate time will be allowed for participants to engage in Q and A prior to the session's conclusion.

Outcomes

After this session, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the connection between leadership well-being, school culture, and student success, 2. Recognize signs and causes of burnout and analyze their effects on leadership effectiveness and staff morale, 3. Evaluate current wellness practices, and 4. Design a personalized self-care plan that promotes personal well-being and strengthens a healthy, high-performing school ecosystem.
