Session description

Research and development drives quality edtech innovation, but identifying excellence is challenging. Join ISTE+ASCD, Learning Data Insights, and Menlo Education to explore new advances in AI-powered educational technology, including mathematics instruction and assessment creation, and learn how to evaluate what makes products truly effective.

Outline

Format = 60-min session
Agenda
(5 min) Welcome - if you're interested in AI, math, assessments, and selecting the best edtech, you're in the right place
(ISTE+ASCD 10 min) What's in "good"? - Since 2020, we've been diving deep into what makes for "good" edtech products. In 2022, we published the first Teacher Ready framework that set a gold standard for quality in curriculum, assessment, and platform products. We used that to rebuild the ISTE Seal, which signals products that are built in accord with the best guidance in user experience and learning design. This year, we're releasing a revised Seal framework which includes blah blah blah... We're out on the expo hall at the Trailblazer Hub and we'll be diving deep into edtech usability, student usability, etc. at the R&D Launchpad.
Deep dives - ISTE works with other nonprofits to help companies make better products and districts find the best products. One network we partner with is a Gates-funded group called AIMS / ENCORE. Today, you'll hear about cutting edge development around AI functionality in math and assessment products.
(LDI 10-15 min) AI is powering assessment products. Here's what we're learning about what to look for...
(Menlo 10-15 min) AI is powering math products in novel ways that go beyond chatbots and lesson planning...
(ISTE 10 min) Wrap up and what's next?
You just heard about a lot of new developments. We're putting those into practice at THIS conference.
Visit the Trailblazer stage to discover the indicators to look for and engage with providers in super short-cycle testing...R&D is fun!
Sign up for coLab to be on the list to get paid to do R&D with trusted providers through ISTE.
Other CTAs to be determined

Outcomes

After this session, participants will be more informed about the research and co-design taking place in the edtech ecosystem, especially in relation to how Artificial Intelligence is being used to close equity gaps for the more underserved student populations in mathematics and assessments. They will also walk away with a better understanding of what to look for in high quality edtech products.
