Event Information
Learning to teach responsively to the diverse learners who populate most contemporary classrooms is a journey. Learning to differentiate effectively is a career-long journey that benefits both learners and teachers. This session is designed for teachers who want to explore differentiation more deeply than they were able to do in the early stages of implementation in their classrooms, and for other educators who want to support teachers applying differentiation practices.
This session will engage participants in hearing about, discussing, and analyzing examples of four key practices that elevate differentiation, increasing the likelihood that it maximizes the capacities of a wide range of learners. The four practices are: communicating with students about differentiation, planning around highways and exit ramps, teaching up, and flexible grouping.
Audience:
This session is appropriate for teachers, coaches and other educators who support teachers in differentiation.
Participants will:
Establish a vocabulary related to the four practices, the key elements of each practice, and indicators of effective use of the practices.
Discover why and how the practices matter for student success.
Learn how to analyze examples of the practices using key knowledge and understandings, and reflect on next steps for bringing the practices to their classrooms.
