Session description

Critical digital leadership leads to learning that critically interrogates power, representation, agency, digital media, and technologies by decoding, meaning-making, analyzing, persona (identity), and using digital tools for critical digital consumption, production, distribution, and invention. In this session educators will cultivate critical digital leadership for equity, justice and joy.

Purpose & objective

Digitally mediated learning encompasses “a device, the internet, digital tools and resources, and the skills, norms, and practices to ensure digital learning is empowering, engaging, and productive” (United States Department of Education, 2021, p. 5). While digitally mediated learning has existed for several years, equitable access has not. The exponential rate of technological change and recent global events situate education leaders to both provide equitable access and redesign deeper learning experiences for students and educators. Moving toward a shared vision, the purpose of this presentation is for 21CSLA to support TK-12 education leaders to effectively support educators, students, families, and school communities engaging in digitally mediated learning while centering equity in order to achieve deeper learning and educational transformation.

Inquiry and equity guide digitally mediated team learning, digitally mediated professional learning, and digitally mediated educational partner engagement and continuous improvement. These are presented in the Framework with their purposes and resources, along with the following questions.
Equity Inquiry: How do leaders advance equity with digitally mediated learning?
Digitally Mediated Team Learning: How do equity-centered education leaders utilize educational technologies for collaboration and project management?
Digitally Mediated Professional Learning Design: How do equity-centered education leaders facilitate digitally mediated professional learning design strategies for deeper learning, communities of practice, and leadership coaching?
Digitally Mediated Educational Partner Engagement and Continuous Improvement: How do equity-centered education leaders implement continuous improvement with data analytics and outreach for educational partner engagement and innovation?
