ITS Client Services Manager
Thompson School District
I'm a Colorado native, but have lived in a few different states, and traveled across the globe. I enjoy taking what I've learned from other cultures or environments and applying it to my daily life. Professionally, I've been in educational computing support since 1997 both in the Higher education and PK-12 spaces. I have a passion for getting students involved with what we do in ITS and watching them grow. I also enjoy sharing what I've learned in this area with my peers. Visit our booth to see how ITS is involving student employees in our daily work!

Session description

Low FTE for IT support? Have students that want to learn tech? Students are your answer! Create personalized pathways for college to career opportunities. TSD Client Services team created a CTE pathway for High School students as on the spot technicians. Our pathways includes IT Internship and PAID Student Apprentices.

Purpose & objective

Participants will learn from the TSD Client Services and Leadership team:
* How to start a student intern and/or apprentice program at the High School level
* Develop interview questions for students interested in the program at their schools
* Connect with current and former student interns and apprentices from TSD
* Engage in thoughtful conversation about the value of this career pathway to both students and staff
* Create documentation to start their own program so all interested students can learn and benefit from real world IT experiences (documents will be provided to start)
* How to prepare your staff for this opportunity and scale it up at all of your high schools
* Connect with and hear from technicians, students technicians and IT leadership
* Get inspired to bring this type of opportunity to your own district
