Dan Olson is the principal at Air Academy High School, a public high school located on the grounds of the Untied States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Session description
Colorado Springs is a mecca for pilots yet few schools have capitalized on this resource to create a school-to-career pipeline focusing on preparing students for the aviation industry. At Air Academy High School, we have created a four-year CTE pathway that will enable students to take to the skies - whether it be flying drones or pursuing a private pilot's license.
From our freshman Intro to Aviation and Aerospace course (including first flights and drone soccer), sophomore Aerospace Engineering course (including industry guest speakers), junior completion of their ground school exam, and senior level part 107 drone license or private pilots license, students at Air Academy have a pathway to the skies complete with industry-specific credentials, internships, and potential college course articulation.
