Session description

We will explore practical strategies for fostering meaningful connections between schools and local communities. We will examine successful case studies of engagement initiatives at laundromats, churches, and community organizations that directly support students. Attendees will learn how to leverage community resources to build partnerships that enhance educational opportunities for students.

Outline

Introduction (5 minutes)

Content: Briefly introduce the importance of community engagement in supporting student achievement and well-being.
Engagement: Pose a thought-provoking question to the audience: “What community resources do you currently utilize, and how have they impacted your students?”
Process: Use a quick show of hands to gauge familiarity with community partnerships.
2. Case Studies and Best Practices (10 minutes)

Content: Present 2-3 successful case studies highlighting community initiatives that have effectively engaged students and families (e.g., partnerships with local laundromats, churches, and organizations).
Engagement: Share engaging visuals and short video clips to illustrate the impact of these initiatives.
Process: After each case study, facilitate a brief audience discussion (1-2 minutes) where attendees can share similar experiences or insights from their own communities.
3. Interactive Activity: Community Resource Mapping (10 minutes)
