Session description

This session will guide attendees through creating and implementing a districtwide high school AI curriculum. Focused on AI literacy, responsibility, and societal impact, it emphasizes conceptual understanding and real-world applications over technical coding, ensuring teacher success, student engagement, and continuous improvement

Outline

1. Introduction & Purpose of AI Course: Overview of Houston ISD’s AI policies, course details, and its role in AI literacy for 11th-12th graders.
2. Curriculum Development Process: Explanation of the district's AI curriculum development process and structure.
3. Implementation During the School Year: Details the systems and resources provided to teachers for AI curriculum delivery.
4. Adjusting to Feedback: How teacher and student feedback shaped changes to the curriculum.
5. End-of-Year Outcomes & Future Plans: Presents data on student engagement, teacher feedback, and future AI initiatives. Participants will use an AI readiness checklist for their own districts and participate in a Q&A session.
