Presentation Outline:

Introduction (10 minutes)

Introductions: Briefly introduce our 4 presenters from the Big Island of Hawaii and our backgrounds.

Kilo Overview: Define kilo as a traditional Hawaiian journaling practice that draws inspiration from the natural world.

Historical Context: Provide a brief overview of the history and cultural significance of kilo.

Kilo Practices in Other Content Areas: Provide examples of how Kilo can be integrated into varied subject areas to enhance learning

The Process of Observation (15 minutes)

Student Video Samples: Share examples of completed student kilo journals to illustrate the process of observation and creative expression.

Guided Discussion: Facilitate a discussion about the elements of effective observation, such as paying attention to details, using sensory experiences, and making connections.

Outdoor Observation Activity (20 minutes)
Instructions: Guide participants in a guided outdoor observation activity, encouraging them to use their senses, take notes, and capture images using digital or traditional methods.

Group Exploration: Divide participants into small groups for a more personal experience and to foster collaboration.

Creating Digital Kilo Videos (30 minutes)

Video Editing Tutorial: Provide a brief tutorial on using digital tools (e.g., apps, software) to create and edit videos.

Creative Exploration: Encourage participants to develop their own digital kilo videos, incorporating their observations, images, and personal reflections.

Peer Feedback: Encourage peer feedback where participants can pair up and provide preliminary feedback on each other's videos.

Sharing and Reflection (15 minutes)

Video Presentations: Invite volunteers to share their completed digital kilo videos with the group.
