Event Information
Introduction and Background on the School (5 min.) - Audience polling will get a sense of the group’s perceptions of the promises and perils of AI for literacy learning.
Leveraging AI for Writing (15 min.) - The presenter will share the experiences students had over the course of a school year to explore how AI can be used for writing.
Leveraging AI Beyond Writing (10 min.) - The presenter will share other tools and experiences that students had with ways to leverage AI to support aspects of literacy and learning beyond writing.
Strategy Instruction as a Framework for Learning About AI Tools (10 min.) - The presenter will share a framework for helping students effectively use AI tools that is similar to that used to teach students about learning strategies. Ways to engage students in thinking about AI, learning, and how AI can support their learning will be shared.
Conversations and Sharing Ideas (10 min.) - Participants will work in small groups (or individually) to consider 1-2 specific AI tools and think about how they fit within a strategy framework.
Student Voices (5 min.) - Student reflections, through text and video, will be woven throughout with some summative reflections shared at the end of the presentation.
Wrap-up (5 min.) - The session will end with a final chance for questions.
