Event Information
In this presentation, we will explore the creation of multilingual podcasts as a powerful tool for empowering STEM students, fostering social-emotional learning, and celebrating linguistic diversity. The session will begin with an introduction to I.A. Around the Globe, a student-led podcast that highlights diverse careers, cultures, and backgrounds. I will share the podcast’s mission and the steps involved in producing episodes, from brainstorming content to recording and sharing.
Next, I will demonstrate the educational benefits of multilingual podcasts, showing how they can be used to bridge language barriers, promote global perspectives, and encourage students to take ownership of their learning. I will provide specific examples of how the podcast has impacted students' confidence and engagement by allowing them to explore their interests and express their unique identities.
Throughout the presentation, participants will engage in interactive discussions. After sharing key strategies, I will invite participants to brainstorm potential podcast topics that reflect their own classrooms' cultural and linguistic diversity. They will work in small groups to draft podcast ideas, guided by my examples. This collaborative activity will allow educators to think creatively about how to integrate podcasting into their own curricula.
To further engage participants, I will incorporate live demonstrations of the podcasting tools and platforms we use, including tips on how to involve students in the entire production process. During these hands-on segments, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and discuss ways to overcome potential challenges.
We will conclude the session with an open Q&A, where participants can explore the practicalities of implementing multilingual podcasts in their schools and share insights from their brainstorming activities. By the end of the session, educators will leave with actionable steps to start their own multilingual podcast projects, inspiring students to share their voices, foster inclusion, and take agency in their learning.
