Explore how collective efficacy unleashed academic success at PS 249, a Title One Blue Ribbon School. Participants will learn strategies to foster collaboration, analyze effective practices, and develop actionable plans to foster collective efficacy within their own schools, promoting a culture of shared responsibility and professional growth.

Outline

Introduction & Framing the Session (5 minutes)
- Content: Overview of collective efficacy and its measurable impact on student achievement. Introduce PS 249’s journey as a Blue Ribbon School grounded in collective efficacy.
- Engagement: Opening reflection on participants' current school cultures, using guiding questions to gauge their familiarity with collective efficacy.
- Process: Brief think-pair-share activity to discuss initial thoughts on collective efficacy and its relevance.

Collective Efficacy in Action: The PS 249 Story (10 minutes)
- Content: Case study presentation of how PS 249 fostered a culture of collective efficacy, highlighting key strategies, challenges, and successes.
- Engagement: Participants will engage in a “Collective Intelligence Resume” activity designed to highlight the collective influence of groups of educators, then examine real data and examples of school initiatives, followed by a group discussion on which strategies resonate most with their own contexts.
- Process: Interactive presentation with visuals, data-driven results, and Q&A moments. Participants will be asked to pose questions or share observations.

Strategy Development: Cultivating Collective Efficacy (20 minutes)
- Content: Break down specific strategies for fostering collective efficacy, including building a culture of trust, establishing clear goals, and creating regular collaboration opportunities.
- Engagement: Facilitated group discussions on challenges in achieving these goals and how to overcome them. Participants will rotate between tables to engage with different perspectives.
- Process: Peer-to-peer interaction with structured prompts. Small groups will work on drafting initial steps for cultivating collective efficacy within their schools.

Reflecting for Success (15 minutes)
- Content: An open forum for questions, brainstorming, and best practice sharing.
- Engagement: Participants will engage in dialogue and reflection with facilitators and fellow participants to pose questions, brainstorm solutions, and share best practices among the audience.
- Process: Facilitator-led Q&A focused on clarifying specific action steps teams can take to nurture collective efficacy and address questions related to mindsets, systems, and/or obstacles as related to fostering collective efficacy

Wrap-up and Reflection (10 minutes)
- Content: Summary of key takeaways and final reflections on the importance of collective efficacy in promoting school-wide success.
- Engagement: Participants will share their biggest insights and how they plan to implement what they’ve learned.
- Process: Whole-group reflection and discussion, followed by a closing remark from the facilitator.
