Session description

From theory to application, let’s dive into the lived experiences of prototyping and deploying curriculum and strategies for guiding PK-12 students in understanding GenAI tools, critically assessing GenAI content, and using it for enhanced learning experiences. Walk away with insights for operationalizing safe, responsible, and ethical use of GenAI.

Outline

Welcoming (5 minutes)
- Turn and Talk, participants will identify the meme that represents their current reality for educating their students on safe, responsible use of GenAI

Overview of Generative AI Curriculum Development (10 minutes)
- Present the process and rationale behind developing the generative AI curriculum, emphasizing the goals of understanding, using, and evaluating GenAI tools.
- Highlight key themes and objectives within the curriculum that align with fostering AI literacy.

Showcasing the Curriculum (10 minutes)
- Provide a detailed walkthrough of the curriculum components, including lesson plans, assessment strategies, and examples of student engagement activities.
- Discuss (Think, Pair, Share) the intended outcomes and how they prepare students to navigate the complexities of generative AI.

Identifying Key Themes and Connections (15 minutes)
- Facilitate a discussion (groups of four using first turn, last turn protocol) on the overarching themes of the curriculum and their relevance to various educational contexts encouraging participants to reflect on how these themes resonate with their own teaching experiences and settings.

Activity: Mapping Key Elements (15 minutes)
- Participants will individually or in pairs create a mapping document to outline how the key elements from the session could be applied in their own classrooms or districts.

Q&A and Reflection (5 minutes)
- Open the floor for questions and reflections, prompting participants to share insights or potential challenges in applying the curriculum.
