Outline

introduction and Overview (10 minutes)

Content: Brief introduction to the concept of a Sustainability Summit, its goals, and benefits. Overview of how sustainability can be integrated across different subject areas and educational levels.
Engagement: Engage participants with a poll using a device-based tool like Mentimeter or Poll Everywhere to gauge their familiarity with sustainability topics. Encourage participants to share one sustainability initiative they’ve seen or implemented.
Activity: Audience interaction through a quick "Turn and Talk" to discuss current sustainability efforts in their schools.
Time: 10 minutes
2. Planning the Summit: Step-by-Step Guide (15 minutes)

Content: Present a detailed, step-by-step guide for organizing a Sustainability Summit, including setting goals, selecting a venue (virtual or in-person), and inviting participants.
Engagement: Provide a customizable template for planning a Summit, which participants can work on during the session. Use peer-to-peer interaction by having participants form small groups to brainstorm Summit themes and objectives.
Activity: Group brainstorming on potential summit themes (e.g., climate change, renewable energy, waste reduction) and key goals. Each group will share their ideas with the room.
Time: 15 minutes
3. Designing Student-Centered Sessions (10 minutes)

Content: Focus on creating student-led projects and sessions for the Summit. Explore interdisciplinary approaches and how to foster collaboration among students and educators.
Engagement: Present a case study or video example of a successful student-led sustainability project. Participants will then discuss how they can adapt similar approaches in their own classrooms.
Activity: Quick breakout groups where participants will outline a student-led project idea related to sustainability. Groups will report out their project concepts.
Time: 10 minutes
4. Interactive Activities and Workshops (10 minutes)

Content: Discuss how to incorporate hands-on workshops, exhibitions, and interactive activities into the Summit to engage students and educators. Highlight tools like maker spaces, eco-projects, and interactive digital tools.
Engagement: Attendees participate in a mini "Design Challenge" where they propose an interactive activity or workshop idea for their summit.
Activity: In pairs, attendees will use provided resources to create an outline for an interactive activity or workshop, then share with the larger group.
Time: 10 minutes
5. Building Partnerships and Community Involvement (10 minutes)

Content: Discuss how to bring in local businesses, community leaders, and environmental experts to support the Summit. Cover outreach strategies and building partnerships that provide additional learning opportunities.
Engagement: Audience will reflect on potential local or global partnerships they could involve in their Summit and share these ideas through a device-based platform (e.g., Padlet).
Activity: Group discussion on effective ways to engage the local community and recruit partners for their Sustainability Summit.
Time: 10 minutes
6. Wrap-Up and Next Steps (5 minutes)

Content: Summarize the key takeaways from the session and provide participants with resources, templates, and action steps for developing their own Sustainability Summits.
Engagement: Attendees will complete a quick reflection activity, writing down one action step they will take toward planning their Summit.
Activity: Reflection and Q&A session to address final questions and allow participants to share their next steps.
