Event Information
To begin, participants will be asked to consider the most challenging writing assignment their students face each year. That writing assignment will be the focus for each individual as we work through the process of backwards designing a series of lessons to achieve success with that project. The presenter will share examples of student work and then walk through the planning of the conversations and writing lessons that produced the work. Each step of the planning process will begin with modeling from the presenter and then include time for participants to work, alone or with partners, on creating a draft of that step in the process for their specific writing assignment. Participants will have the opportunity to share their steps throughout. This modeling and creating will be at least three quarters of the time together. Teachers should leave the session with a detailed plan for the lessons surrounding their writing assignment.
