Session description

Discover how integrating Cyber Literacy across all K-12 subjects empowers students to navigate an increasingly digital world. This session explores real-world strategies and resources to teach cyber safety, data protection, and responsible online behavior, equipping students with critical skills to tackle cyber threats and misinformation across all disciplines.

Outline

This is being submitted as a poster session, so the following pertains to if it is accepted as a poster session. I will have the content printed out in a poster format.
I will open by relating the importance of cyber literacy from an early age. I will share about national initiatives including the creation of CISA, the National Cyber Directorate, and the White House Executive Order's pertaining to building the Cyber Workforce.
I will then share samples of student work as seen on the poster. This includes teaching about how to make good passwords, encryption/decryption, and multifactor authentication and at various grade bands (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) and in different subject contexts. For example, encryption and cryptography have a strong mathematics focus, ethics and policy are great to discuss in social studies (as well as historical encryption algorithms), and science research relies on good data and secure programming tools.
I will end with a project I encourage all school districts to do: asking students to engage with the IT department and learn more about their cybersecurity practices. Obscurity is not security!
