Session description

Teacher leaders possess a unique opportunity to strengthen instructional practice and enhance student learning but they need support. In this practical session teacher leaders and those who support them, will learn how to use an asset-based leadership self-assessment to help them skillfully lead the teacher teams they have and develop into the leaders they want to become.

Outline

Upon entry: Poll about what teacher leadership looks like in your setting.

10m. Power of Teacher Leadership and research behind their need for coaching and support. (Cartoon story and research quotes and short intro to who Elisa MacDonald is and why coaching teacher leaders is important.)

5m (Group charting) What are the Ups and Downs to being a teacher leader?

10m. Intro to the Ten Primary Intentions that skillful intentional Teacher Leaders set. (Lecture explanation, "look and listen for's" and time for individuals to self- reflect on one primary intention.)

30m. Application to a real coaching session. Elisa begins with explaining the structure of the coaching process, then shows clips of an edited video of a coaching conversation between Elisa and a teacher leader from Brazil. (Elisa will pause the video a few times to prompt participants to write or turn-and-talk.)

5m. Take-aways and application to own setting.
