Session description

This hands-on session introduces the AI Literacy Framework for Primary and Secondary Education, a joint initiative of the European Commission and OECD with support from Code.org and international experts. Designed for curriculum directors, solution providers, and education leaders, participants collaborate to build actionable strategies for adoption and implementation.

Outline

Opening & Framing (10 min): Presenters introduce the AI Literacy Framework for Primary and Secondary Education and highlight its development through global collaboration, setting the context for adoption. They will share how stakeholder engagement shaped the draft version, to become the final version launched in April 2026.

Framework Exploration (20 min): Participants will explore the Framework’s updated domains (e.g., Engaging, Creating, Managing, and Designing with AI), currently under refinement in the review phase. Participants will be asked to map connections between the domains and AI literacy competencies to their current work. Interactive polling and small-group prompts spark discussion. Participants may also share examples of "best practices" and identify times that they have supported relevant student competencies in their own contexts.

Adoption Challenges & Opportunities (20 min): Guided dialogue on barriers (e.g., policy alignment, equity, curriculum fit) and opportunities. Participants share experiences in small groups, then report back. Participants consider how they might position themselves as change agents and partner with those in their settings to do so.

Action Planning Workshop (30 min): Participants co-create adoption strategies aligned to their contexts (district, provider, curriculum). Facilitators provide templates to structure plans around vision, capacity, and implementation steps. This part of the session will center on using the Adoption Checklist, a completed implementation resource developed by TeachAI to complement the AI Literacy Framework and support schools in planning and scaling adoption.

Synthesis & Commitments (10 min): Groups share highlights. Each participant identifies one concrete next step to take back to their organization. The presenters will review and provide background information on an additional set of implementation resources to support adoption.

Outcomes

Participants will be able to identify entry points for integrating the AI Literacy Framework for Primary and Secondary Education within their local or organizational context. They will be able to design an actionable implementation plan aligned to their role—whether as a curriculum director, district leader, or solution provider—and apply the completed Adoption Checklist developed by TeachAI to structure next steps for adoption, professional learning, and policy alignment.
