Session Title: Seeing Students Clearly: Using the Teacher LENS to Interpret Classroom Behavior
Total Duration: 60 minutes
Time Content Engagement / Process
0–10 minutes Introduction & Framing: Overview of how culture influences classroom behavior and why teachers often misinterpret student actions. Introduction to the Teacher LENS framework. Quick audience poll (via Mentimeter or hands raised): “Which classroom behaviors challenge you most?”
10–25 minutes Understanding the Teacher LENS: Deep dive into each component—Look for Biases, Examine Communication, Notice Group Dynamics, Shift Perspectives. Participants complete a short reflection sheet identifying one behavior they’ve misunderstood and why.
25–40 minutes Case Study Application: Small-group discussion of classroom scenarios showing how cultural misunderstandings can affect teacher-student relationships. Groups analyze a sample classroom vignette and apply the Teacher LENS to reinterpret the situation.
40–50 minutes Connecting Reflection to Practice: Sharing strategies for responding to behavior with empathy and cultural awareness. Whole-group share-out; participants develop one “next step” they’ll try in their classroom.
50–60 minutes Closing & Reflection: Recap major insights, connect to the Teacher VIBE mindset (Valuing Inclusion and Belonging for Everyone). Q&A and call to action. Digital exit slip: “How will you use the Teacher LENS next week?”
