Presentation Outline
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Content:
Welcome participants and introduce Microlearning Magaic
Brief overview of the importance of microlearning in professional development.
Engagement:
Icebreaker: Quick poll using a digital tool (e.g., Mentimeter or Slido) to gauge participants' familiarity with microlearning and their PD needs.
Process:
Encourage participants to share their expectations for the session.
2. Understanding Microlearning (10 minutes)
Content:
Definition of microlearning and its benefits for educators.
Overview of key principles that make microlearning effective.
Engagement:
Presenters will use an interactive slide presentation (Lumio) to illustrate statistics and success stories related to microlearning from research and our experiences in Dorchester School District 2.
Process:
Open floor for participants to share experiences with microlearning.
3. Data from Dorchester School District 2 (DD2) Initiatives (10 minutes)
Content:
Present specific data from DD2’s Techsgiving and 12 Days of Schoology initiatives:
Techsgiving Data: Highlight participation rates, completion rates, and feedback from educators who engaged with the microlearning modules.
12 Days of Schoology Data: Present engagement metrics, learner satisfaction scores, and any observed improvements in technology integration in classrooms.
Engagement:
Encourage participants to ask questions about the data presented and share any similar experiences they may have.
4. Step 1: Engage (15 minutes)
Content:
Introduce the Engage component of our EDTECH framework and discuss strategies for captivating participants.
Engagement:
Group activity: Divide participants into small groups (Using Lumio's Grouping feature) to brainstorm techniques to engage their audience in microlearning.
Process:
Groups will share their ideas via Lumio to the whole group, fostering discussion and feedback.
5. Step 2: Design (10 minutes)
Content:
Discuss the importance of the Design phase in creating effective microlearning content.
Provide examples of effective design principles that enhance learner engagement.
Engagement:
Participants will work in a notecatcher to outline a microlearning module, focusing on engaging design elements.
Process:
Share ideas with their Lumio group after the pair discussion.
6. Step 3: Teach (15 minutes)
Content:
Demonstrate how to deliver content effectively in the Teach phase, including tips for using technology.
Engagement:
Hands-on activity: Participants will choose a delivery method (e.g., video, interactive presentation) and draft content for their module.
Process:
Provide prompts and support as they create, encouraging peer discussions about their designs.
7. Step 4: Evaluate (10 minutes)
Content:
Discuss strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of microlearning modules in the Evaluate phase.
Engagement:
Q&A session where participants can ask about assessment techniques.
Process:
Encourage participants to share experiences with evaluation and data collection.
8. Step 5: Customize (10 minutes)
Content:
Highlight the Customize phase, focusing on how to tailor content to meet the specific needs of different learners.
Engagement:
Interactive discussion: Participants will brainstorm customization ideas for their modules based on diverse learner needs during a microlearning initiative.
Process:
Collect suggestions on a shared document for future reference. Will be added to shared Wakelet
9. Step 6: Highlight (10 minutes)
Content:
Present the Highlight phase, emphasizing how to showcase key takeaways and celebrate learner achievements.
Engagement:
Group discussion: Share ideas for recognizing participation and rewarding progress.
Process:
Compile and share ideas on a communal document for further exploration shared in Wakelet.
10. Conclusion and Q&A (5 minutes)
Content:
Recap key points and emphasize actionable outcomes from each step of the EDTECH framework.
Engagement:
Open the floor for final questions and insights.
Process:
Encourage participants to reflect on how they will apply what they’ve learned.
11. Exit Survey (5 minutes)
Content:
