Session description

Focusing on the REFRAME methodology, attendees will learn the process of identifying, teaching, and reinforcing the soft skills critical to student success. They will walk away with actionable items to bolster their existing practices. These skills not only enhance learning environments but support students as they prepare for their futures.

Outline

Introduction (5 Min): Storytelling; Anecdote about REFRAME in the training room.
Who is YouthForce NOLA and Why Soft Skills? (5 Min) YouthForce NOLA Background, 6 Key Tenets of Career Connected Learning (Checklist), and Background of Soft Skills Lexicon Project
What are Soft Skills? (10 Min) Activity: Review MHA Building Blocks, identify Building Blocks you have strengths in? Weaknesses in? What building blocks do your students NEED the most help developing?
Introduction to soft skill building best practices: (15 Min) Strength Based Coaching, Skill Targeting for Soft Skills, Qualities of Effective Feedback
Introduce and discuss REFRAME: (15 Min) What is REFRAME? Share overview of each element? Practice with one or more component (Reveal Targeted Skills and Magnify Recognition)
Closure and Resources (5 Min): Share MHA Materials, call to action. How can you empower your students with soft skill development practices?

Process: Attendees will participate in an engaging activity based lecture and discussion. There will be elements of shoulder partner activities, whole group activities, and interactive submissions (via Mentimeter) throughout the presentation.
